NII Research Data Cloud (NII RDC) is a research-data infrastructure developed and operated by the National Institute of Informatics (NII) through its Research Center for Open Science and Data Platform (RCOS). Its core structure spans three lifecycle functions: GakuNin RDM for data management during research, JAIRO Cloud for institutional-repository publication, and CiNii Research for discovery of scholarly content and research data. NII says development began in 2017 and full-scale operation in 2021. RCOS also describes research and development to enhance data governance and provenance, reproducible-code packages, privacy-preserving analysis, secure storage, curation, and training; these are ongoing development topics distinct from the three core foundations.
