e-Stat, Japan’s Portal Site of Official Statistics, is a government statistics gateway that brings together statistical data and related information released by ministries and other public bodies. It entered full operation in 2008 as a one-stop portal. Visitors can search tables and files by subject area or publishing organization, browse database records, and find recent releases, publication schedules, and survey-item information. For working with the figures, the site links to charts and time-series tables in the Statistics Dashboard, the Statistical Geographic Information System and jSTAT MAP, and regional social and population statistics. Developers can retrieve government statistics in machine-readable form through the e-Stat API, while linked open statistical data are also offered through Statistical LOD; the API guidance says users must register with e-Stat. The site’s about page says the Statistics Bureau of Japan developed the portal and the National Statistics Center operates and manages it.
